Band-Aids 19, Other team 6

Man, our team really knows how to lay the beats to other teams. Last night was our 8th consecutive win in the WNBL Softball League. I'm not sure what is stands for, but I am sure it's very logical.
The game started out with Stacey (playing 1st base) taking care of all three outs. First was a pop-up that she over-ruled Cred and made the catch. It was the text book version of "communication is the key to a successful team" (also on 90% of cover letters). Second out, Stacey tracked a pop-up into foul ball territory and made a running catch. Third out was a sharp grounder that she picked up and made the final out of the inning.
Next the Band Aids went three up and three down. I think all three outs were hit directly into our opponents gloves, easy peazy. This kinda drop the volume of the team until out next at bat when we went through the whole rotation and captured five runs. For the rest of the game we held the opposition to one or less runs an inning.
Dingers were hit by:
Stacey - 1 homer
Jeremy Gackle - 2 homers
Jeff P - 1 homer
Josh - 1 or 2 not exactly sure ( I do know you had a couple of stingers down the first base line, hehe)
Cred - 0 homers (he did make a great throw from the outfield to get a player out at first base, good work little buddy)

Great game team!

Some other points:
- A shout out to Ben, great shoes and you are a franchise player, I don't care what anyone else thinks, you are!
- Cred, you pitched a good game, it's about time a team didn't hit four or five balls right up the middle at you.
- Travy, you lead the best post game three cheers in the west!

For future post game reports I will try and get some pics during the game.

This day in history
1956: At the U.S. Olympic Trials in Los Angeles, Glenn Davis breaks the 50-second barrier in the 400-meter hurdles on the same day that Charles Dumas becomes the first man to high jump seven feet.
Todays records are.
400 Hurdles = 46.78, Kevin Young (US)
High jump = 2.45m 8-0.50 ft, Javier Sotomayor (Cuba)

It's good to see humanity is evolving in more was than just huge friggin' TVs.

Thanks for listening, two days to kill before the weekend.

Another Day, Another Dime

Yesterday was a slow day. The heat was crazy, almost fell due to a couple of irregular heartbeats. I was working at the Golf Depot in Brentwood Mall after work so that prolonged the day even more. Once I got home, the upstairs was about 10 degrees hotter that downstairs. We have an air circulation system in our house. This sucker works great, cools the house down in a matter of minutes.
Stacey purchased a portable DVD player last night at Best Buy. I can't wait to glue my eyes to this unit while we travel through the mountains this weekend. I'm kidding, I'm more of a window looker than anything.
As I read through a bunch of my brothers friends blogs, Mullins, ( http://jamesfeedingtube.blogspot.com/ ) made a comment on the baseball team they played last week and having a "Softball Guy" on the team. I must admit I wear a wristband for protection against hard grounders and sometimes refer to myself at Ol' DJ or Ol' A-Rod (Derek Jeter & Alex Rodriguez, this really erks a guy on my team, I only say this for the satisfaction of the look on Cred's face. I draw the line with batting gloves, especially two of them. It's ok for girls, guys can take a hike if they need gloves, we don't even have fences on the field, there's no sliding and the hole year cost each player $10. Deal of the summer.
Tonight my ball team plays (The Band-Aids). We are a pretty stacked team, lots of homeruns and even the odd double play. I play on the hot corner or short-stop, depends if Gukes is playing or not. My girlfriend Stacey kills the ball, dingers in almost every game she has played in the last ten years. There is a bet on the team she will hit more yard shots then Justine (Cred, my old roommate) will on our team. I would definitely put down a hundred bucks. Sorry Cred, but the little guy is the little guy.
Well I should take the rest of the day off and prep for the game. I will give the post game report tomorrow.

Bu-bye

Safety is the last thing on our minds

It was a great weekend. It started out Friday night with Matt and I mowing the lawn. This was quite the event. Last week the pull start on my John Deere 3.5 Hp gas mower went belly up on me, so I took what I learnt in grade 9 shop class and started to dissect the mower. To my surprise I soon found out I had no idea what I was doing, but I was dirty and looked like a mechanic. I had all these nuts screwed off and the pull start mechanism off. I diddled with the unit for 15 minutes. That’s when I came to the conclusion to get the beast started and keep’er going till the lawn was done. This is not the most safe or smartest idea I have had but time is money and the grass needed a cut. Since I was a young lad my Dad always told us to never have the engine running if you are emptying the bag or moving random objects out of your way. This was in my mind the whole time when changing the bag and moving objects. The good news is that I have all 10 digits and the lawn looks like a million bucks.
I had to take this picture because the smallest things seem to slipe our minds when a job needs to be done, see if you can pick it out.

Yup you are correct, sandals are strapped on , haha. Now that is safety at it’s finest. I am getting the mower fixed this week, anyone know any John Deere dealers that could hook me up?

Saturday moring I remembered I needed a pair of black pants to wear to the wedding. My ideal pair was pleated black with cuffs. This is almost an impossible purchase. I started off at Cosco, I arrived at 9:20 and the store opened at 9:30. already a line was starting to form, by the time the huge garage door type gates open, someone yelled “Release the hounds” I b-lined it to the clothing section. Nothing, and I was off to Golf Town across the street. They had what I was looking for but the pants were $110, not my cup of tea, since I work at a golf shop on the evenings I know that the mark up is about 80%. Off to Walmart, crap, and Marks Work Warehouse was the ticket. Picked up a pair of Denver Haynes pants. They need a wash cause it felt like I had taped cardboard to my legs, they were a little stiff.

Saturday afternoon brought the unity of my two friends Kuris and Carolyn Martin. What a blast we had. There was a bunch of buddies that I went to elementary school and Junior High with in Red Deer. Jeff Ingles, Tyler Zukusky, Sean McAndews and Shawn Ziggler to name a few. Everyone is doing well and was great to catch up on the last 13 years. They had a couple questions about you Jake, so I lied and said you have been in jail for the last two years and will back in civilization by the end of the summer if all goes well. It’s amazing how accepting people are now a days. I’m kidding, I gave them the low down on you and your situation in the east.
Matt and I stayed out fairly late going from room to room in the hotel with Matt’s video camera. What a bunch of yahoos we are, but the journey is well documented and hilarious.

Sunday was a right off. Rested my body to get ready for the workweek and doing small chores around the house. Stacey and my Mom were in Airdrie to attend my cousin Heathers shower. I went out there in the mid afternoon to pick up Stacey and have a chat with my cousin. I can’t wait for that wedding on July 29!

That’s about it. Have a great workweek and the long weekend is coming up!

Loose Teeth

Today I had my annual dentist appointment, things went well. I did hear the crap I hear every time I go.
1- How often do you floss? I said I have never flossed a day in my life. She wasn't very pleased with me.
2- Do you have any problems with your teeth? I said they are all loose and feel like my teeth are hanging by the roots and about fall out of my head. That was a little too far so I stopped the smart ass remarks after that.
3- Mint, Strawberry, Cherry or plain flavored fluoride? I went with the mint. But plain, this is new to me. I thought that the terrible taste of mint was bad enough along with the foamy texture of the fluoride.

Of course before I went a couple of co-workers were telling me not to get the fluoride because it is a waste of money.(only $20 cheapskates) I beg to differ, I think it is worth the four minutes of drool running down the side of your face and the suction hose rattling around in your mouth pulling at the skin under your tongue. (that did hurt a couple of times)

This was a new dentist, my previous dentist was not good at all. Dr. P was a worn that had a hard time trying to give me the bad news of having a single cavity. So I canned him. Dr. McMullen was great, she told me things straight up, she was quick, pleasant and not afraid to tell me to floss more. ( I hear that every time I go) http://www.scenicsmiles.com/drvicki.html
For anyone in the NW of Calgary I recommend Ol' Vic to help you out.

All in all, it was one of my best dentist experiences I have had. Minus the cavity I have to go back to get filled next Friday. Can't wait!!!

Now the weekend. My buddy Curtis Martin and high school friend Carolynn Wright are getting hitched here in Calgary this weekend. Should be a good time. I am hopping to see some friends I haven't seen since 1994.

until next time, Keep fit and enjoy.

First time, Maybe last time.

Well here goes nothing,
I figured I would try a blog and see if I can keep it up. Nothing like another challenge and one more thing to keep my already busy life busy.
My brother Jake has quite the extensive blog and keeps it up to date. So I will try my best.

A little about myself, I am a business banker in Calgary Alberta . I work with smaller companies, $2MM and under in annual sales, that are looking for money to start their next million dollar idea. Most do not workout how they have planned it, but you get the odd diamond in the rough.

My girlfriend and I own a house in cowtown. We bought back in August and just missed the huge real-estate boom in Calgary. So we consider our purchase luck and smart.

Any way, here is a start and hopefully not the end.
